Isabella Mann: In class Vid, Japanese Spirit Video

Towards the beginning of the semester we watched a series of different spiritual videos and one that struck out to me was, Japanese spirit dancers. This video featured 3 dancers who portrayed as ghostly figures accompanied by spiritual music and created a haunting yet mesmerizing atmosphere. These ghostly figures, moving in rhythm, embodies the space between life and death, presence and absence. Their dance became a ritual of remembrance, suggesting that spirts can co exist not only in memory, but also in movement, rhythm, and art.

The spiritual music evokes reverence and mystery, guiding the audience into a contemplative state where the dancers ghostly presence feels both unsettling and sacred. The imagery and music further remind us that art can serve as a spiritual practice, a way of connecting with the intangible and expressing truths about mortality, continuity, and the unseen world.
