Amanda Capper - Message in a Bottle by The Police
I remember one day in class we listened to the song "Message in a Bottle" by The Police. I think the purpose of this class was to see the meaning behind the words, how the lyrics show that everyone is alone and sending out messages in a bottle to be found by someone. I think that myth and ritual are a way that we can not be so alienated all of the time. I know for a lot of teens and young adults especially, it can be hard to enter adulthood with a sense of stability. New jobs, new places, and people can be hard to adapt to. This is why I think a lot of us feel so alone and lonely. We are all just going through the same thing, but none of us actually know it! If we talked to one another, was honest with the way we feel, and just acted like another human being to one another, none of us would feel as lonely as we are. I think human connection is such an important thing because it is how we grow as a species. It is how we adapt and overcome our challenges. Let's be honest, who has ever gone through something completely alone without any outside help and came out of the other side completely fine? It's not healthy nor stable to go through great stresses alone by bottling one's feelings.
